Phân biệt (So sánh) Both và Both of 
Both được sử dụng để nói về hai người hoặc hai sự vật. 
Both cats and dogs are pet animals. 
Trước một danh từ với một từ hạn định (the, my, this etc.), both và both of đều có 
thể dùng được. 
Both of my parents are teachers. HOẶC Both my parents are teachers. 
You can take both of the shirts. HOẶC You can take both the shirts. 
Both of these answers are correct. HOẶC Both these answers are correct. 
Lưu ý rằng the thường bị lược bỏ sau both. 
She has eaten both chops. HOẶC She has eaten both the chops. HOẶC She has 
eaten both of the chops. 
Trước đại từ nhân xưng chúng ta dùng both of. 
Both of them have agreed to come. (KHÔNG NÓI Both them have agreed to 
come.) 
She has invited both of you. (KHÔNG NÓI She has invited both you.) 
Chú ý rằng both of được theo sau bởi một tân ngữ có dạng thức của đại từ (us, 
them, you etc.). 
The không được sử dụng trước both 
Chúng ta không đặt the trước both. 
Both the boys were given prizes.(KHÔNG NÓI The both boys were given prizes.) 
Cấu trúc phủ định 
Trong các cấu trúc phủ định chúng ta sử dụng neither, không nói both not. 
Neither of them came. (KHÔNG NÓI Both of them did not come.) 
Both với động từ 
Chú ý cấu trúc đặc biệt trong đó both đi với động từ. 
They can both swim. (= Both of them can swim.) 
They have both come. (= Both of them have come.) 
They both liked the movie. (= Both of them liked the movie.) 
Bothand 
Chú ý rằng trong cấu trúc này các từ ở cùng phần của lời nói theo sau both và and. 
She is both beautiful and intelligent. (Ở đây both và and được theo sau bởi các 
tính từ.) 
 She both sings and acts. (Động từ) 
I have invited both John and Peter. (Danh từ)
