Đưa ý kiến - Giving opinions, sử dụng từ too và so sánh hơn nhất - superlatives

1. ĐƯA Ý KIẾN - GIVING OPINIONS 
Sẽ lịch sự hơn khi nói perhaps khi đưa ra ý kiến hay đề nghị.
Hãy nghe và thấy sự khác nhau. 
It’s time to go.
Perhaps it’s time to go.
You’re wrong about that.
Perhaps you’re wrong about that. 
ANNE 
Good fruit. Perhaps a little immature.(cô ấy ám chỉ rượu chưa uống được)
Khi đưa ý kiến và muốn mọi người đồng ý, ta nói isn’t it? 
It’s hot, isn’t it?
It’s funny, isn’t it? 
SARAH 
It’s very pale isn’t it? (cô ấy ám chỉ màu rượu hơi nhạt)
Hãy cẩn thận. Chỉ nói isn’t it khi chủ ngữ là it.
Thay vì nói isn’t it với các chủ ngữ khác, ta nói: 
He’s funny, isn’t he?
You’re late, aren’t you?
They run fast, don’t they?
Isn’t it là dạng ngắn của 'is it not?', tương tự với 'don’t you think?'. 
This is a good movie, isn’t it?
This is a good movie, don’t you think?
Chúng ta thường nói I think khi đưa ra ý kiến của mình. 
I think the food here is excellent.
I think it’s a boring movie.
ANNE 
I think we’ll leave that one.(một cách lịch sự để nói rằng cô ấy sẽ không mua nó) 
But I like the Chardonnay.
I think we can sell that.
2. SỬ DỤNG TỪ TOO
Một từ khác thường được dùng khi bày tỏ ý kiến là too.
It’s too cold. 
Ta dùng nó để nói về điều gì có mức độ nhiều hơn mức độ ta muốn.
The train is too crowded.
This tea is too sweet.
Ta thường dùng too sau much (much too) để hàm ý 'thậm chí '. 
The train is much too crowded.
This tea is much too sweet.
ANNE 
It’s a bit too dry for our market. (rượu không ngọt)
Ta dùng too trước much (too much) để nói về số lượng không thể đếm được. 
This tea has too much sugar in it.
There’s too much noise. 
ANNE 
A bit too much fruit at this stage (rượu có ị giống nước hoa quả quá mức)
Đối với các vật không thể đếm được ta dùng many. 
There are too many people on the train. 
Chú ý rằng từ này được đánh vần với hai chữ o - too
It has more than one o. 
Ta cũng dùng too với cách đánh vần tương tự để hàm ý 'as well' - cũng 
It has another meaning too. 
I want to come too.
TIM 
It’ll drink well for years yet, but you can drink it right now too.
(rượu này sẽ ngon trong nhiều năm và cũng ngon bây giờ)
Số 2 được đánh vần two.

3. SO SÁNH HƠN NHẤT - SUPERLATIVES
Ta còn có thể dùng tính từ để so sánh nhiều hơn hai vật theo 1 cách khác. 
Khi so sánh hai vật, ta thêm 'er' hay nói 'more' trước tính từ. 
This is big.
This is bigger.
A cow is big
An elephant is bigger
A whale is the biggest of all animals 
Một cách để so sánh nhiều hơn hai vật là thêm 'est' vào tính từ. 
This is a big animal.
This is a bigger animal 
This is the biggest animal.

It's a lovely colour, deepest red (màu đỏ rất đậm)
TIM
Yes, it's made from some of our youngest vines.
Các tính từ có 1 âm chính hay 1 âm tiết thì thêm est vào cuối. 
small (one syllable)
smallest
Khi 1 từ có nhiều hơn hai âm tiết, ta không thêm est để hình thành dạng so sánh hơn nhất.
Beautiful có ba âm tiết. 
Beau-ti-ful
Dạng so sánh hơn nhất của beautiful là the most beautiful. 
She is the most beautiful woman in the class.
TIM 
Well, it's our most expensive wine at fifty dollars retail.
TIM
It's our most popular white at the moment. (rượu trắng)
Có hai so sánh hơn nhất bất quy tắc rất phổ biến.
Dạng so sánh hơn nhất của good là best. 
This is the best wine. 
Dạng so sánh hơn nhất của bad là worst.
This is the worst wine. 
ANNE 
What's your best red? (rượu màu đỏ)
Chú ý rằng chúng ta thường dùng the trước tính từ ở dạng so sánh hơn nhất. 
This is the biggest animal. 
She is the most beautiful woman in the class. 
Hoặc ta dùng 1 tính từ sở hữu (your, our, their, its, my, someone’s or something’s) 
That is your biggest problem.
Sam’s largest pet is his dog.

4. AS GOOD AS 
Ta dùng cụm as good as để nói rằng các vật tương đương nhau hoặc tốt như nhau. 
My house is as good as yours. 
(nhà tôi tốt tương đương với nhà bạn)
TIM 
Our reds are as good as any you’ll find around here. 
(các loại rượu đỏ của chúng tôi ngang bằng với bất cứ loại nào ở vùng này)
Ta dùng as trước và sau tính từ để nói 2 vật như nhau. 
I’m as big as he is. 
She’s as smart as you are. 
ANNE and SARAH are tasting wines. The WINEMAKER, TIM, is explaining the different varieties.
TIM: These are our whites. Why don’t you try the Chardonnay first? It’s our best-selling wine.
SARAH: Lovely.
ANNE: Good fruit. Perhaps a little immature.
TIM: Yes, it’s made from some of our youngest vines. It’s our most popular white at the moment. Try this Riesling.
ANNE: Hmmm.
SARAH: It’s very pale isn’t it?
TIM: A lot of our customers are finding it very attractive.
ANNE
It’s a bit too dry for our market. I think we’ll leave that one. But I like the Chardonnay. I think we can sell that.
TIM: Excellent.
SARAH: Let’s try the reds.
TIM: Our reds are as good as any you’ll find around here.
ANNE: What have we got here?
TIM: This is our cabernet sauvignon. It’s very popular.
ANNE: Mmmm. A bit too much fruit at this stage. I understand it wasn’t a good year for cabernet in this district.
TIM: You know your wines, Miss Lee.
ANNE: I try to be prepared. What’s your best red?
TIM: This one. Our shiraz, and we think it’s world class.
SARAH: It’s a lovely colour, deepest red.
ANNE: What vintage is this?
TIM: It’s three years old now. It’ll drink well for years yet, but you can drink it right now too.
ANNE: And what’s the price?
TIM: Well, it’s our most expensive wine at fifty dollars retail.
ANNE: I’ll think about it. It’s certainly got potential, but there are a lot of wines around in this class these days. You’ve got a lot of competition Tim!
TIM: That’s for sure. But we can work out a special price for you, if you’re interested.
ANNE: I’m definitely interested. This is very good. Sarah knows our requirements and pricing position, I’m sure you can work out something with her.
TIM: I’m sure we can.
