II. In America there is no national television as there is in some countries. 
All the stations are run commercially. Advertisers sponsor show, they

selling. Television is criticized for its crime shows, actually there are many 
other special shows of real value. There are also educational television 
stations which are trying out new types of high quality programs. They give

III. Halloween is one of the most famous holidays in the U.S., and it is on 
October 31. People carve pumpkins and make funny faces on them. These 
are called “Jack – O – Lanterns”. On October 31, children wear a special 
costume such as a witch, ghost, or clown. They go to many houses and they 
knock on the door saying, “Trick or Treat!” It means that if people don’t 
give them a treat, they will play some kind of trick on the household. So, 
usually people give candy to them. I carved my first Halloween pumpkin at 
my Friendship Family’s hous. First, I cut open the top of the pumpkin and 
pulled the seeds out. Is was not good for me because is was sticky and 
smelled bad. I had never carved a pumpkin, so it was interesting for me. 
Next, I carved the eyes and the mouth. I put a candle inside. It was very 
beautiful, so I was happy. I had a good experience because I learned one 
new idea about American culture by taking part in it. I think Halloween is an 
tinteresting American holiday which involves all family members and 
neighbors too!

IV. Guglielmo Marconi was born in Italy in 1874. He studied in Bologna 
and since his childhood, he showed great interest in physics and electricity. 
Basing his studies on Hertz’s findings, Marconi concluded that the 
electromagnetic waves could transmit messages, so he conducted his 
research in that direction. As Marconi did not get any financial incentives 
from the Italian government, he moved to England where he got funds for 
his research. In 1897, Marconi was able to communicate via radio through 
the Bristol Channel. In 1901, he transmitted long – wave radio signals across 
the Atlantic Ocean. At that time, Marconi was already recognized as a great 
name in science and technology. In 1909, he shared the Nobel Prize in 
physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun, a German physicist, who worked on 
wireless telegraphy and cathode rays. Marconi died in 1937.

used in the forestry industry in Asia for many years. Elephants also use their 
trunks for drinking water, bathing, and eating and communicating. Recently 
it was discovered that elephants can communicate over a distance of several 
miles using infrasonic sounds inaudible to humans. Elephants use their earas 
as a cooling system. Blood flows through veins in the ears and as the 
elephant flaps his ears, the blood cools and flows through his body to cool 
off other parts. Elephant feet are large and round. They distribute the large 
animal’s weight effectively. In the past, elephants were killed and their feet 
were made inton umbrella stands and small tables for tourists.

V/When I opened the first “Body shop” in 1976 only object was to earn 
enough to feed my children. Today “the Body shop” in an international 
company rapidly rowing all around the world. In the years since we began I 
have learned a lot. Much of what I have learned will be found in this book, 
for I believe that we, as a company, have something worth saying about how 
to run a successful business without giving up what we really believe in. It’s 
not to normal business book, not is it just about my life. The message is that 
to succeed in business you have to be different. Business can be fun, a 
business can be run with love and it can do good. In business, as in life. I 
need to enjoy myself, to have a feeling of family and to feel excited by the 
unexpected. I have always wanted the people who work for “the Body shop” 
to feel the same way. Now this book sends these ideas of mine out into the 
world, makes them public. I’d like to think there are no limits to our family’, 
no limits to what can be done. I find that an exciting thought. I hope you do,
