I. Introduction: The lesson belongs to Unit 11: Looking good! of New Headway elementary book. It introduces the basic knowledge about the usage of present continuous tense; vocabulary about clothes; describe people.
II. Aims:
1. Knowledge:
- describe people using the Present Continuous.
- distinguish the Simple Present and the Present Continuous.
- ask and answer using possessive pronouns.
- use common expressions in the clothes shop.
2. Skill:
- Reading the vocabulary fluently.
- Practicing speaking skill.
- Practicing listening skill
3. Attitude:
- Paying attention to the lesson.
- Contributing the ideas to the lesson.
- Working in groups enthusiastically.

STARTER 15’ Communicative approach - Ask Ss to look around the classroom and try to find the items of clothing - Ask: what are you wearing? What am I wearing? What is he/she wearing - answer T’s question textbook, CD player, disk DESCRIBING PEOPLE 25’ Communicative approach 1. Ex 1: “what do they look like? what are they doing? what are they wearing?” - helps Ss with some vocabulary about describing people - asks Ss to work in pairs: each pair describes 2 photos - calls on some Ss to present their work Presentation: the present continuous form: S + tobe + V-ing examples: the use: - describe these people - present their work - listen to T Slides. (possessive adjective) Those books are ours. (possessive pronoun) 2. Whose? - Point out that there are two ways of asking the question: Whose + noun + is this? Whose + is this + noun? 3. Careful! - Highlight the difference between Who's = Who is and Whose? for possession. - Highlight the key word - Listen and take notes. - Listen and take Book Board Cassette PRACTICE 30’ Communicative approach, 1. Choose the correct word. - Ask Ss work individually and choose the correct word. - Get Ss to compare with a partner - Check the answers with the whole class. 2.T11.3. - Read the instructions - Ask Ss shout out 1 if they think the word is “Whose . . . ?” and 2 if they think it is “Who's . . . ?” - Play the recording. - Repeat each sentence as often as necessary. 3. LISTENING AND SPEAKING (Looking for that something) 30’ Communicative approach, What a wonderful world! 1. Look out of the window - Look out of the window and give a brief description what T does. - Try to include examples of the Present Continuous. - Get Ss to look out of the window and describe what they can see. - Encourage them to be as detailed as possible. - Ask them to include colors and other adjectives in their description. 2. Matching - Do the first two collocations with the whole class as an example - shake hands and babies cry. - Ask Ss to continue the activity in pairs. - Check the answers with the whole class. - Ask Ss to use the phrases to talk about the photos. - Encourage them to do this in a meaningful way (There are two people smiling and shaking hands.) - Listen to T - Look out of the window and describe what they can see. - Listen to T - Work in pairs 4.
