I. Tóm tắt bài giảng 
1. Lý thuyết 
 QT14: 
 - Dùng „the‟ trong so sánh kép 
 Ví dụ: The hotter it is, the more comfortable I feel. 
- Chỉ thứ tự: The first, the second, the last, the only... 
Ví dụ: 
+ The second semester begins in January. 
+ I hope you enjoy the next song. 
 QT15: 
- Dùng „the‟ với tên sông (river), biển (sea), đại dương (ocean), quần đảo... 
 Ví dụ: 
 + The Congo River is in Africa. 
 + The Sargasso Sea is located in the Atlantic Ocean. 
 Nếu tên núi, hồ đứng sau thì không cần „the‟, ví dụ: Moutain Everest, Lake Ba Be ( không 
có „the‟) 
 QT16: Dùng „the‟ khi nói về những sự vật chỉ có duy nhất. Ví dụ : The sun, the moon, the 
sky... 
 QT17: The+adj: Danh từ số nhiều chỉ người 
 Ví dụ: The rich: người giàu...; The English: người Anh... 
 QT18: Không dùng mạo từ với tên riêng sân vận động, công viên, bệnh viện 
 Ví dụ: I was born in Hillsdale Hospital. 
 QT19: Không dùng mạo từ với tên ngôn ngữ, Ví dụ : English (tiếng anh) 
 + Spanish is spoken in most Latin American countries. 
 QT20: Little, a little+ Danh từ không đếm được 
Few, a few + Danh từ đếm được số nhiều 
a few, a little mang nghĩa tích cực (có một vài) 
few, little mang nghĩa tiêu cực, gần như không có 
 QT21: Dùng the + south, north, west...

Không dùng „the‟ nếu phương hướng đi kèm ngay sau một động từ chỉ hành động như 
“go, travel, turn, look, sail, fly, walk, move”. 
 Ví dụ: 
 + We are considering going south next year. 
 + When you get to 12

 Street, turn north. 
 QT22: the+nhạc cụ: play the guitar, the piano 
Một số ngữ cố định không có the: go to bed, go to school... 
 QT23: Không dùng „the‟ với tên bệnh và chia động từ số ít 
 Ví dụ: 
 + Heart disease kills millions every year. 
 + Cancer is not a contagious disease. 
Ngoại lệ: Ta có thể dùng the flu hoặc flu đều đúng. 
 QT24: Dùng “the” với các tên số nhiều, ví dụ: The Smiths = The Smith family 
 Dùng „the‟ với các danh từ chỉ lực lượng quân đội: the army, the police, the navy 
 QT25: Dùng “the” với từ “same”

 + Twins often have the same interests.

Mạo từ “the” dùng trước tên của một ngôn ngữ hoặc tôn giáo đã được làm cho xác định bởi một 
mệnh đề tính từ, một cụm tính từ, hoặc một cụm giới từ. 
Ví dụ: The English spoken in American is only a little different from British English.
